Kinross Gold



Located in Toronto, Canada, the Kinross Gold Corporation is a public company focused on the mining, exploration and development of gold ores. Over the last few years it has seen the best growth out of any company in the mining industry and is looking to continually expand. It currently has operations based in Brazil, Russia, Chile and the United States, making it the third largest gold company in North America by reserve amount and the 7th largest in the world in regards to production. The company is currently listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange in Canada, and the New York Stock Exchange in the United States. It was the highest performing gold related company on both exchanges in 2006 and 2007consecutively.

Going by 2007 data Kinross Gold reported $334 million US Dollar equivalent net income, from 1.6 million ounces of produced gold. It forecasts this to rise to 2.5 million ounces by the end of 2009. Total revenue was just under $1,093 million US Dollar equivalent. The company currently employs 4,000 workers across its many operations.

Historically the company was first founded in 1993, and quickly expanded in to one of the leading gold miners in the world. In early 2007 it acquired the Bema Gold Corporation for 3.4 billion, and it also completed a deal where it swapped assets with Goldcorp in turn for a full ownership of the Chilean company La Coipa, plus an extra $200 million in cash. As part of the deal Goldcorp received Kinross’ Porcupine Joint Venture and Musselwhite assets.

Kinross Gold promotes the following corporate vision: To guide the world in creating value through gold mining; to use their expanding reserve amounts to increase production over 60% more than 2007 levels by 2009; and to improve cash flow along with new growth projects, whilst delivering unparalleled value to shareholders and investors, all whilst maintaining ethical responsibility.
As of 2009 the company’s CEO and president is Tye Burt, with nine other directors on the board. There are also eight executives altogether.

Kinross has yet to receive any major negative publicity for its business practices, and was actually voted one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers by Mediacorp.
